Danse Macabre or The Dance of Death is the new musical work in the Dark Ambient/Dungeon Synth/Dark Industrial style, by sound and visual artist IO, which comprises 51 albums dedicated to the work The Dance of Death, by German artist Hans Holbein The Younger, developed between 1522 and 1526, within the allegorical artistic style of the Middle Ages known as Danse Macabre.

Holbein's work consists of 51 woodcuts and was a social critique of the time, having even been banned by the Inquisition. Each emblem presents a scene in which death is always shown dragging a human in a dancing manner, and we can see that there is a lot of music through the presence of several musical instruments included.

An impressive show of dance and music where death, which begins with the expulsion of man from Paradise, appears in different guises and spares no one, from the highest positions in society to the weakest.

The Dance of Death is an important literary and visual allegory that serves as a reminder of the transient nature of human life, as well as the idea that no matter your position in this world, you will end up dancing the dance of death.
